Stone Restoration Service

A restoration stonemason focuses on fixing and maintaining existing stone structures rather than just building new ones. This job starts with an inspection to figure out why the stone is failing, whether it’s due to age, water damage, or poor original construction. The mason has to find a matching stone type and mix a mortar that stays consistent with the original materials, ensuring the repair doesn’t look out of place or cause the surrounding stone to crack.

When repairing stone walls, the mason often has to deal with sections that are leaning or bulging. They carefully take apart the unstable areas, save as much of the original stone as possible, and clear out old dirt or loose mortar. As they rebuild, they focus on structural basics like “through-stones” to tie the wall together and proper drainage to prevent future water pressure from pushing the wall over again.

Fixing pavers and walkways is all about creating a flat, safe surface. Over time, ground movement or tree roots can make pavers uneven, creating trip hazards or causing water to pool against a building. The mason lifts the sunken or tilted stones, levels out the base with sand or gravel, and resets them. If a paver is cracked, they cut a new piece to fit the exact gap, making the path look uniform and professional.

Beyond just the big structural fixes, a mason also handles “pointing,” which is replacing the mortar in the joints between stones. Old mortar eventually turns to dust, letting water seep into the wall. By scraping out the old joints and packing in fresh mortar, the mason seals the structure against the weather. This kind of maintenance is essential for keeping stone features looking good and standing strong for decades.
